Jacking In: A Monthly Series on Cyberspace Literacy presents
WRITING DOWN THE NETS: CREATIVE LIT IN CYBERSPACE
Computer networks, conferencing systems, and bulletin boards are subtly
redefining the nature and process of creative writing. These
technologies have provided subject matter for visionaries, collaborative
strategies between practicing writers, unimaginable outlets for fast and
broad distribution, and new opportunities for dialogue between writers,
publishers, and readers. Word processing and desktop publishing were
only the beginning.
Join us for an evening of presentations, readings, and surprises with:
- Will Kreth, director of infrastructure for *WIRED* -- the magazine of
and for the Digital Generation -- and host of the WELL's WIRED
conference, a forum for reality checks from *WIRED*'s audience and
contributors.
- Tom Maddox, educator, blues musician, author of *Halo* and various
short stories that have appeared in *Omni*, *Asimov's*, and
*Mirrorshades*.
"... his mastery of the cyberpunk dynamic is unsurpassed"
--Bruce Sterling
- Patrizia DiLucchio, a technophobe lured to cyberspace by its artistic
and literary possibilities; journalist, health policy analyst, former
topless dancer, fledgling science fiction writer, and host of the
WELL's Life Stories, Eros, and Current Events conferences.
- Bill Knutson, Emeryville-based writer, contributor to *MONDO 2000*
and novelist; *Strange Attractors*, a work-in-progress, explores the
limits of technology and human freedom.
- Jerod Pore, ranting anarchist, environmental activist, and host of the
WELL's Factsheet Five conference, an electronic extension of the
comprehensive fanzine review; expert on zine production,
dissemination, and walking encyclopedia of zines of all subjects.
Wednesday, April 21, 7:30 p.m.
